A well-known secret of Long Island, Porky Tonic is an unregulated, USHAP un-insured, ridge soaring paragliding site. With its proximity to New York City it is a great temptation for experienced USHPA pilots, USHPA beginners, and renegades as well. If you are one of those tempted, this is the page for you.

If you are wise, you will not try to fly before you get the site intro from the locals. Following some simple advice will tremendously increase your chance of survival.
Never fly alone.
Bring the radio and set it to 144.440.
Bring your phone and share your location before the flight.
Stay away from nature.
Stay away from non-nature.
The launch is only about two days horseback riding towards the rising sun. You can rest your horse by the road, and take a short hike thru the woods to the launch.
Tramountána is your friend, but only in a gentle breeze. If it gets moderate, you better know what you are doing; you will be safer closer to Maḯstros, or in rare cases half the way down to Graígos. And if Poseidón gets upset, don't wait to see his trident. Go home if you feel his breath!
Be aware of embarcadère. If you feel adventurous and conditions are right, you can fly about a league to the right of the launch with your back against the sun, or about 20 furlongs in the opposite direction.
